It seems like a bizarre idea to buy your own nature reserve. Not many people do it, but it does offer benefits: For yourself, for the locals and of course, for nature itself.
As a nature lover you can ensure that the nature in your area remains protected by buying a piece yourself and maintaining it. You don't have to do this alone. Gather other nature lovers from your village or town and make sure that the available nature is preserved. But some people see it just a little bigger...
Like the famous couple Tompkins (late Douglas Tompkins was the founder of The North Face and Esprit, his wife Kris Tompkins was former CEO of Patagonia Inc. ) that over the past 30 years has created 6 natural parks with a total surface area of 800 thousand hectares in Chile and Argentina to donate to the government. They were the inspiration for other wealthy nature lovers to also invest in nature reserves around the world such as CNN founder Ted Turner who has 51.000 bisons in Argentina and the US (the largest privately owned herd in the world). Dutchman Albert Hartog, the founder and major shareholder of the Amsterdam-based Active Capital Company, also invested 100 million euros in his own nature reserve in Botwana, which he manages through his Timbo Africa Foundation.
